All brushes are made using natural hairs for the heads, West Virgina bamboo for the handles, and leather or linen for the hanging straps. The decorative handle wraps are done with waxed Irish Linen threads.  I hand-craft them all in my Harpers Ferry studio, using strong epoxy resins as the adhesive, and with minimal care will provide many years of use in your studio.

These brushes are made form Amish Broom Corn (the millet plant) and are great for leaving strong texture marks in your hakame slip applications.

I currently use 3 different hair types for these production brushes.  The "salt and pepper" black/white is from Gray Squirrel, and the beautiful orange hair is from Red Squirrel.  The longer coarser white and brown mix is Eastern White Tail Deer tail - or "BuckTail"  The squirrel hair is quite soft and absorbent and good for thin to medium materials.  The BuckTail is somewhat coarse and works best for medium (think tomato soup) to thick materials.

The BuckTail hair is fairly coarse and works great with thicker materials like slips and thick glazes.  This hair is not very good with very thin materials as it tends to drip easily.

This Broom Corn Brush is spread into a rake shape with cedar, and sewn with linen thread.  It will leave great strong hakame marks in your slips or glazes, and can be softened a bit to make the shaft more flexible, by soaking it in clean water for 5-10 minutes or so before using.  This is an example brushes vary.

This paddle shaped brush is made from horse tail hair with a medium coarseness, and will leave nice moderate hakame marks in your slips and glazes.  It is sewn with linen threads, and the hair is set with a strong epoxy bond for many years of use without "shedding".  This is an example brushes vary.

Ringtail used to be one of my favorite "go to" hairs for best brushes - but now costs so much and is so hard to find that they had to become a "specialty" item for me.  The hair is great for thin to medium thickness materials and behaves as well as any brush hair you can buy. They are wonderful for watercolor and ink as well. I am very sad that the hair has become so rare and expensive - sorry!!  These are examples brushes vary.
